Health - Safety - Environment
Environmental care, health and safety are essential elements of Campine policy.
They express our mission statement commitment to sustainable management.

In 2007 the Campine site was partially transferred into a nature reserve following an
agreement with the Natuurpunt ecology agency. This resulted in the creation of an
adapted landscape with trees, shrubs and grass to host a herd of highlander cows that are tended
with care. In combination with the several investments to reduce environmental pressure,
the Campine nature reserve stresses our commitment to the environment and our dedication
to integrate our production activities in the residential community we are part of.
The creation of the SHE teams (safety, health and environment teams) within each unit prove to be
a great advantage in daily follow up and implementation of the regulations.
Our commitment to the environment is demonstrated by:
- Our determined efforts to meet all public expectations and applicable legislation in
the environmental area.
- Constantly searching for and introducing the best available technology. The environmental
impact of our activities is minimal, and amongst the best in the sector.
- Maximum use of by-products and rational recycling of waste into new raw materials.
This keeps final waste levels very low. Packaging materials are also used rationally and
sparingly. For this reason we have affiliated to Val-I-Pac.
- Campine Recycling’s focus on maximum recycling of lead waste. Spent battery acid and
lead become valuable raw materials.
- Open communication of actions and results to public authorities, employees and neighbours.
We seek constructive dialogue with these stakeholders.
- Constant investment in better understanding how our end products impact the environment,
safety and health. We are a driver in the risk assessment of antimony (see “Antimony > Risk Assessment”).
